Direct NIC is a full service web hosting and domain registration company. They are able to help their customer with registering or transferring a domain name and can also host it. For those people that already have a website Direct NIC can help by enabling their website for eCommerce or protecting their online privacy.
Domain Registration and Hosting Plans
If you are looking to setup a new website, Direct NIC can help you register your domain name. They offer a number of website extensions such as .com, .net, .org and .info. All of these cost $15 per month and do not have any restrictions as to who can register them. Some websites have additional requirements such as .us requires the individual to be a US resident and .eu which requires the contact address to be in Europe.
If the website already exists and you would simply like to transfer it over to direct NIC you will have to pay $10 per year for common extensions such as .com, .net and .org. Any domain that is being transferred has to be at least 60 days old and must have been fully paid for.
One of the benefits of registering your domain with Direct NIC is that they will provide you with free web hosting. Customers who opt for the free web hosting option get 20 MB of space and unlimited bandwidth. The catch is that Direct NIC places ads on your websites to pay for the cost. The user is able to choose from pop up ads or banner ads. If you do not want to clutter your website with ads then you can sign up for the paid web hosting plans. The banner-less hosting plan costs $15 per year for 20 MB of space. However the plan only offers 2GB of data transfer for the year.
Direct NIC also offers 3 premium hosting plans, Bronze which offers 800 MB of storage space, 100 GB of data transfer and costs $3.95 per month, Gold which offers 2000 MB of storage space, 400 GB of data transfer and costs $8.95 per month and Platinum which offers 6000 MB of storage space, 1000 GB of data transfer and costs $15.95 per month.

Support for PHP and Perl
Ability to create sub-domains
Email accounts (Bronze - 40, Gold - 100, Platinum - 250)
Anti-virus and Anti-spam software
Direct NIC also provides email services for $10 per year and $5 for any additional email on the same domain.
Customer Support and Reviews
If you need you get help Direct NIC provides a list of FAQs and numerous guides, however the information provided is fairly basic. Unlike other companies there is no option for a toll free number of a quick online chat. The company does not feature any testimonials or awards on its website which calls into question the quality of their services.
Before you decide on which company to choose to host your website please ensure that you have spoken to the company personally as personal satisfaction is more important that simply reading reviews.
While Direct NIC does seem to provide extensive domain registration and transfer services they do lack on the web hosting front. The lack of awards for a 10 year old company also does not bode well.
